IMPACT: Churchill Falls MOU – what are the region’s expectations?

On December 12, the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec announced the terms of a MOU for a much anticipated new Churchill Falls agreement. The Premiers also announced plans for new developments in Churchill Falls and to develop and commission Gull Island in 2035. The MOU is expected to be formalized by the provinces by April 2026.
Not only will this deal further strengthen Labrador’s position as an economic, green and sustainable powerhouse for the county, but ensure economic benefits to businesses and Labradorians, if developed in alignment and partnership with the region. The LNCC remains in constant contact with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Hydro‑Québec, and the LNCC is committed to ensuring ongoing dialogue and consultation with employers. The LNCC has hosted several information sessions for our members and continues to work towards the opening of the Business Opportunities Office.
