Today, the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce (LNCC) staff and Board of Directors join Labradorians in mourning the passing of Mary Janet Hill, Board member of the LNCC.
Mary Janet was bold, energetic and confident, and was a champion for economic growth and self-determination across Labrador’s Innu communities. In her role as CEO of the Innu Development Limited Partnership since 2017, Mary Janet believed in the growth and potential of her communities and loved Labrador deeply.
In a speech during the Northern Lights 2020 Business and Cultural Showcase, Mary Janet stated: “My whole life has been about reconciliation. It’s been about bringing two worlds together, having mutual understanding and respect; it’s been about raising awareness; it’s been about reminding people that we are not the less fortunate ones, because we still have our culture, our values, our language, and our connection to our lands.”
We thank her for her wisdom and leadership, and her contribution to the LNCC and economic development across Labrador. On behalf of the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce, we extend our deepest condolences to Mary Janet’s large circle of family, friends and colleagues.
Mary Janet was taken from us far too soon. The Board and staff have made a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mary Janet’s name.
