LNCC ENCOURAGED WITH SUPPORTS FOR BUSINESS IN HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY BUDGET
The Labrador North Chamber of Commerce (LNCC) is encouraged by the direct supports for businesses outlined in The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s 2021 municipal budget.
In particular, the LNCC is pleased with the following:
- Support in the amount of $18,000 for twenty-three businesses under the Business Tax Relief Program;
- No increase in mil rates for residential and commercial property tax;
- No increase in tax mil rates, minimum vacant commercial property tax, and water and sewer rates for 2021;
- Investment in a transportation study to assess community accessibility and transport needs;
- Continued investment in the Birch Island Boardwalk to further support healthy living and community mental health; and
- Investment in the Central Labrador YMCA, on schedule to open in April 2021.
“It has been a challenging year for businesses in 2020 and it’s positive the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has responded with direct business supports within its 2021 municipal budget,” says LNCC Chairperson Andy Turnbull. “We were pleased to learn the Town has supported twenty-three businesses and is not implementing increases to mil rates and property tax.”
The LNCC looks forward to obtaining further details on the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s 2021 budget and continuing to work with the Town on ensuring further supports for business are implemented.
